Pasta : Your Ally for Maintaining a Healthy Weight

A study carried out by the IRCCS Neuromed Institute (Pozzilli, Italy) has shown that contrary to popular belief, pasta does not increase the risk of obesity, and that it can even help maintain a healthy weight.

Many studies have already proven that the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest and most balanced in the world. However, until recently, no study addressed the specific role that pasta plays in maintaining weight. The Neuromed Institute now sheds light on the topic by analysing the dietary habits and anthropometric data of 23,000 study participants. A correlation has been found between pasta consumption and a lower risk of obesity, specifically: a lower body mass index, a smaller waist size and a healthier hip-to-waist ratio.

The results of the research, made up of two large epidemiological studies (Moli-sani and INHES [Italian Nutrition & Health Survey]), have been published in Nutrition and Diabetes.
