The Highest Honours for the Producer of the Favuzzi Olive Oil

Miguel Carrasco, the miller behind our Favuzzi brand olive oil, is named best extra-virgin olive oil producer in Extremadura (Spain) for the 6th consecutive year!

The goal of the Spanish Association of the Municipalities of the Olive Tree (AEMO), comprising over 120 olive growing municipalities and provinces, is to highlight the value of olive groves, olive oil and table olives. To that end, it holds a competition rewarding the best players in the olive growing industry at the beginning of every year.

For the 6th consecutive year, the jury awarded the prize for “Extremadura’s best extra-virgin olive oil producer” to Miguel Carrasco. This prize rewards the ingenuity and passion of one of Spain’s most renowned extra-virgin olive oil millers. A true example of technological innovation for the whole country, his mill is a testament to his environmental commitment and his continued desire to produce an exceptional extra-virgin olive oil. Indeed, his ultramodern facilities promote sustainability: waste is either recycled or reduced to a minimum. Miguel’s obsession with the Manzanilla Cacereña olive variety, unique to his region, is also much appreciated.

Extremadura, the Land of Olive Trees

By way of anecdote, in June 1922, King Alfonso XIII visited the north of Cáceres, just a stone’s throw from the Portuguese border, then one of the country’s most humble areas. Struck by the region’s great poverty, rumour has it he exclaimed, “At least they have olive trees…”

Today, the region is home to Spain’s most famous olive varieties, and olive growing has become an antidote to rural flight: it is a way of life.

The Manzanilla Cacereña olive variety is grown exclusively in the Sierra de Gata-Hurdes region, in the north of Spain’s Extremadura province. While there are over 30 different varieties of Manzanilla olives, the Manzanilla Cacereña is the region’s unparalleled jewel, thanks to its delicious fruity flavour and numerous health benefits.
