Fried Calamari with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients needed

  • 400 g of fresh calamari, cleaned and cut into rings
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) of milk
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 1 egg
  • 250 ml (1 cup) of flour
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) of wheat semolina flour
  • Oil for frying
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) of Favuzzi basil tomato sauce
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Steps of preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the milk, lemon juice, and egg.
  2. Season with salt and pepper, then add the calamari.
  3. Mix well and let marinate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a separate dish, combine the flour and semolina and lightly season with salt.
  5. Drain the calamari, then coat them in the dry mixture.
  6. Shake off any excess flour.
  7. Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Fry the calamari in small batches for 2–3 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  9. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with the tomato sauce and lemon wedges.
